Cheat at Golf?
More than 70% of golfers cheat, according to a recent poll by BadGolfer.com.

TORONTO, Ontario (PRWEB) April 3, 2004--Think golf is a gentleman’s game? Think again. According to a recent poll by BadGolfer.com, more than 70% of golfers cheat at the game.

Of the 10,000 readers surveyed, 7,120 confessed to cheating. It seems 71% of golfers don’t have a firm grasp on basic USGA rules. In fact, the number of cheaters may be even higher, as many respondents confessed on behalf of friends and family members as well. It seems some readers see cheating at golf as a genetic predisposition, as if it ‘runs in the family’. Still others are powerless in the face of peer pressure since ‘all the guys are doing it’.

So much for the purists. According to most cheaters, it’s all about winning. Excuses for cheating ranged from the mundane to the bizarre. Some see cheating merely as a feature of their go-getter personality “If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying”. Others offered tips on how to cheat, which included everything from fudging the numbers to poking opponents with clubs. One reader even offered this innovative suggestion: “bring your wife along to keep score…in your favor of course. While she’s there, she can also get the drinks and carry your clubs.”

What does all this mean? Badgolfer.com Publications Director, Doug Carey, suggests keeping a close eye on your golf partners. “Next time you’re out on the greens,” he says, “remember, it’s a jungle out there.”
